The Birthday Book - Page25 by SalHunter The Birthday Book - Page25 by SalHunter
(Nothing is Perfect)

In 2009, I was given a little drawing book for my birthday ... it's a spiral bound sketch book with a pretty cover. Not something I would buy for myself ... but a welcome gift none the less. I decided to fill it with little sketches and drawings as a stream of consciousness.

This is page 25 ... HB and 2B pencil ... about 7 cms by 14 cms ... 10 days.

This is the one that caused me to panic. You can probably tell that there is a gaping hole in the composition ... unfortunately the drawing went so badly that I erased an area and tried to fix it. This is no longer technically a stream of consciousness ... it is a consciously rescued drawing and so this is a lesson to me that Nothing can ever be perfect ... hence it's title above.

Oh I don't know about its value but I do know it is one exciting yet difficult project ... Drawing a page a month in a book is actually harder than it sounds

This gives me the impression of reaching very deep into ones soul searching for something lost or a direction that needs to searched to be understood -- Ok a bit deep even for me but that was the thought when I viewed this awesome work

Excellent save

I love the title and the important lesson it contains. You could also title it 'perfection is overrated' because often times an initially perceived 'mistake' takes you in a new direction you wouldn't have thought of anyway. I think this piece actually stands apart from the other pages in a good way; what you see as a hole in the composition makes it more interesting & unique.

Thank you! :D

I agree with you ... It does stand alone. I was thinking that, apart from the way the composition has been twisted, this one makes the book hinge around ideas of conscious vs subconscious ... and this is the one that contrasts the others in that respect ... not that anyone who saw it would know without the tale of its construction ... it is one of the secrets in the diary!

Nope i can't tell... it looks perfectly beautiful to me!
But i once made a painting for Mr -is-Thinking and I hated it. I took it down. He made me paint it again because he loved it, and he put it back up on the wall... i still can't stand it but  he's happy, so i let it lie! ^^ i think its more difficult to be satisfied with your own work :XD:

Well, I think it all worked out for the best. Good on you for resolving it! Now, it will be best to not tell people the story. Let them look and wonder about the title. :)

I think you have to give it a rest now. And you have to accept it. Yes.
I myself have anomalies in my drawings that are very disturbing. Brute lines. Aaaaaarrgh....it's so difficult to explain myself in english. But to make a long story short...I have accepted them as a sort of disorder just like my Asperger Syndrome. I can point some out if you like... I found at least 2 or 3. Once accepted they kinda "feel" as if it belongs there!

For my feeling, your drawing is as tender (yes) and beautiful as ever. :sun::sun::sun:
